As Genus VII T designated Royal Saxon State Railways zweifachgekuppelte tank locomotives for the secondary rail . The Deutsche Reichsbahn assigned the locomotives to the 98.70 series in 1925 .

history

The Royal Saxon State Railways classified all double-coupled tank locomotives without running axles in class VII T. In addition to a number of locomotives that came from nationalized railway companies, there were also 43 self-procured vehicles included.

42 locomotives, largely identical in construction, were delivered from the Sächsische Maschinenfabrik formerly Richard Hartmann in Chemnitz between 1882 and 1894 . First, they were given the generic characters H VII T , from 1896 only VII T .

What the various delivery series had in common was the driving wheel diameter of 1130 mm and the axle base of 2200 mm. The length and height of the center of the boiler above the top of the rail was also the same for all deliveries. The locomotives of the last two series had a steam dome , while the older ones only had a regulator attachment.

The Deutsche Reichsbahn took over a total of 29 locomotives in 1925. Five of them were from 1882/83 (98 7051 - 98 7055), eleven from 1886 (98 7056 - 98 7066), nine from 1890 (nos. 98 7067 - 98 7075) and four from 1894 (98 7076-98 7079).

The 98 7069 became a work locomotive in the RAW Chemnitz in 1931 and was reintegrated into the stock of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1951 as 98 7051 . It was only retired in 1967. The 98 7065 and 98 7066 were also in use until 1966.

The locomotive with the number 98 7056 (former 1431 HEGEL ) has been preserved. It belonged to the Dresden-Altstadt depot until 1964 and was then handed over to the Dresden Transport Museum. For many years it was part of the permanent exhibition, today it is stored in the museum depot in the former Dresden-Altstadt depot and is looked after by the Dresden-Altstadt depot .

Another locomotive built in 1889 by the Sächsische Maschinenfabrik with the track number 1418 differed from the other H VII T by a larger wheelbase (2500 mm), larger coupling wheels and a top speed of 5 km / h higher. It also had a lower overall weight.

The locomotive came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1925 as 98 7031 . It was used as a shed locomotive in the Leipzig Hbf depot until 1927.
