Süß is a district of the municipality Nentershausen in the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg in Hesse .

Geographical location

Suss is located in the Richelsdorf Mountains southeast of the main town. The Weihe flows through Süß, which is surrounded by forest, and leads to the  3250 state road .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document as early as 744. The place name Süß comes from the old high German Siazza = settlement, pasture place. Other well-known names for the village are Susse, Sussz and Sus . After several changes of ownership, the then Thuringian Süß with the towns of Bosserode and Raßdorf came to Baumbach's court in Nentershausen in the Sontra office in 1733 and thus to Hesse. Because of this contractual agreement was that the Landgrave Frederick of Hesse his claim to the cooperation with Saxe-Eisenach managed Amtshaus Breitenbach dropped and for u. a. the three places received from the Thuringian office of Gerstungen . Copper slate, cobalt, nickel and barite were mined in the village in the Middle Ages . In 1962 mining was stopped.

On December 31, 1971, the previously independent town of Suss was incorporated into the Nentershausen community.
