The Southern German football championship 1917/18 of the Süddeutsche Football Association won the 1. FC Nuremberg by two victories in the finals against FC Union Stuttgart . This was the second win of the southern German soccer championship for the Nuremberg team. However , they were not allowed to take part in the German football championship , as it was not held due to the First World War . In the following season, due to the war, no southern German championship was held.
Mode and overview
As in previous years, district champions were determined in four regional districts, who played off the southern German football champions in a final round in the knockout system .

North circle
In the northern circle, the winner was played in a round-robin tournament with three participants. It is not known whether there have been regional qualifying matches for this northern circle. In Südmaingau , however, there is an autumn round that the Frankfurter FV won and a spring round that the FSV Frankfurt won. Since the champion was already determined, Viktoria Hanau's game against FSV Frankfurt was no longer played.

East circle
In the eastern district, the winner was played in a knockout system with four participants. It is not known whether there have been regional qualifiers for this eastern circle. In the Middle Franconia district , however, there is an autumn round won by 1. FC Nürnberg and a spring round won by SpVgg Fürth . The semi-finals were played on January 27, 1918 and February 3, 1918. The two final games between 1. FC Nürnberg and FA Bayern in the Munich SC took place on February 10, 1918 and February 17, 1918. The decisive game that had become necessary was decided 3-0 by 1. FC Nürnberg on February 24, 1918 on Marbachstrasse.

Western district
In the western district, the winner was played in a round-robin tournament with three participants. It is only partially known whether there have been regional qualifying matches for this western circle. Phönix Mannheim won the Mannheim group and qualified for the Westkreis finals. Tables from the other groups have not been handed down. Since the champions had already been decided, the game between Alemannia Worms and Ludwigshafen was no longer played.

Final round of the southern German championship
In the final round, the four district winners met each other on a two-legged basis. The semi-finals took place on March 17, 1918 (first leg) and on March 24, 1918 (second leg). The final, however, did not take place until August 1918.
