SPD regional groups Lower Saxony / Bremen

The SPD regional group of Lower Saxony and the SPD regional group of Bremen merged into a joint group in October 2009. This makes it the only regional group in the German Bundestag in which membership comes from members of two federal states.

Function and way of working

The SPD regional groups Lower Saxony / Bremen meet regularly on Monday evenings. From 2014 to February 2018, Lars Klingbeil from Munster, elected general secretary of the SPD in December, was chairman. The East Frisian SPD member of the Bundestag, Johann Saathoff, has headed the regional groups since February 19, 2018 . He is represented by Kerstin Tack , Falko Mohrs , Sarah Ryglewski and Lars Klingbeil.

The regional group represents the SPD parliamentary group in its federal states and participates in the public relations work of the parliamentary group. She promotes the politics of her parliamentary group in Lower Saxony and Bremen and maintains a dialogue with institutions such as B. unions, welfare associations, employers' associations, parliamentary and citizenship groups, the two SPD state associations and other institutions. Within the SPD parliamentary group, the state group represents the interests of its two federal states and participates in the group's internal decision-making.

Members

Members of the state group are all 22 SPD members of the Bundestag (19th electoral period) from Bremen and Lower Saxony. In the 18th electoral term (2013–2017) there were 27 members of the state group, in the 17th electoral term (2009–2013) there were 21 members and in the 16th electoral term (2005–2009) 27 members. In the 15th electoral period (2002-2005) the state group comprised 31 members and after the Bundestag election in 1998, which was very successful for the SPD, there were 35 members of the Bundestag.
