Dietmar Schütz (born October 21, 1943 in Oldenburg ) is a German administrative lawyer and politician ( SPD ). From 1987 to 2001 he was a member of the German Bundestag. From 2001 to 2006 Dietmar Schütz held the office of Lord Mayor of his hometown Oldenburg.

Life

Dietmar Schütz passed the Abitur at the Graf-Anton-Günther-Schule in Oldenburg. He studied at the University of Göttingen , the subjects of history , politics and law . Dietmar Schütz became a member of the SPD in 1965, at the same time he was a member of the Social Democratic University Association . He passed the first state examination in 1970 and the second state examination in 1973 . From 1974 to 1976 he was the personal advisor to the Lower Saxony Minister of Science Joist Grolle and, after his resignation in February 1976, when Ernst Albrecht was elected Prime Minister, he was a lawyer at the Weser-Ems district government in Oldenburg.

Between 1981 and 1987 he was a member of the City Council of Oldenburg and from 1985 to 2001 he was chairman of the SPD sub-district of Oldenburg-Stadt. From 1987 to 2001 he was a member of the German Bundestag in the 11th electoral term , in the 12th , 13th and sometimes in the 14th electoral term . There he was, among other things, state group spokesman for the Lower Saxony SPD parliamentarians in the Bundestag and deputy energy policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group . He was a member of the Legal Affairs Committee and later the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Committee and the Committee on Budgets . He was also a member of the Bundestag's trust committee .

Along with Michaele Hustedt , Hans-Josef Fell (both Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and Hermann Scheer ( SPD ), Schütz is counted among the mothers and fathers of the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) , which became a model for 47 countries around the world.

From 2001 to 2006 he was Lord Mayor of Oldenburg. In the first ballot in 2001 he had won 48.73% of the vote against the previous mayor, Jürgen Poeschel , and won the runoff election with 65.39%. In the mayoral elections in 2006, Schütz ran again for this office, did not achieve an absolute majority in the first ballot and in the run-off election a fortnight later, with 49.13% of the votes, was just defeated by his challenger Gerd Schwandner .

From February 2008 to October 2013 he was President of the German Renewable Energy Association (BEE). After leaving the Bundestag, Schütz became a member of the Association of Former Members of the German Bundestag and the European Parliament. V. and was a member of its board from 2012 to 2018.

Dietmar Schütz is chairman of the Oldenburger Bürgerstiftung and 1st chairman of the support association of Werkstattfilm e. V. in Oldenburg.

Dietmar Schütz is married, has a son and lives in Oldenburg.
