Sunred Engineering
Sun Race Engineering Development SL , Sunred for short (or SUNRED or SunRed ), also sometimes called SEAT SWISS , is a Spanish motorsport team founded in 2005 . It is best known for its involvement in the World Touring Car Championship and in GT racing .
history
World Touring Car Championship
Sunred has been participating in the World Touring Car Championship since the beginning of the 2008 season. Tom Coronel was signed up as a driver in the Seat Leon 2.0 TFSI for the entire season. An additional car was also provided for the driver who had scored the most points in the Seat Leon Eurocup the previous weekend . One of these drivers was Tom Boardman in 2008 , who competed with Sunred for the entire season alongside Coronel in 2009 . Coronel was the best private driver in 2009 and Sunred the best private team.
In 2010 , Sunred started as a works-supported SR-Sport team with the former Seat Sport drivers Gabriele Tarquini , Tiago Monteiro , Jordi Gené and Tom Coronel in the Seat Leon 2.0 TDI . Furthermore, two more Seat Leon 2.0 TDIs were used for Michel Nykjær and Fredy Barth under the name Sunred .
In 2011 , Sunred regularly fielded six Seat vehicles in the World Touring Car Championship. Gabriele Tarquini and Aleksei Dudukalo started for the Lukoil-SUNRED team , while Michel Nykjær , Tiago Monteiro and Pepe Oriola started for SUNRED Engineering . Fredy Barth started with the naming of Seat Swiss Racing by SUNRED . During the season, all drivers switched from the Seat Leon 2.0 TDI to the SUNRED SR Leon 1.6T . Hiroki Yoshimoto and André Couto made one guest start each in Japan and Macau .
Sunred was also represented in the World Touring Car Championship in 2012 . As the Tuenti Racing Team , vehicles for Tiago Monteiro and Pepe Oriola were used throughout the season; Fernando Monje did a guest start in Curitiba . As SUNRED Engineering , the team used seats for Andrea Barlesi and Fernando Monje at irregular intervals .
Gran Turismo
Sunred has been competing in the Spanish GT Championship since 2005 and in the International GT Open since 2006 . The team has been using the self-developed Sunred SR21 since 2007 .
In 2012 , Sunred used only one Ford GT continuously in the FIA GT1 World Championship , although the regulations stipulated two vehicles per team. The series promoter SRO initiated the effort to fill the field and announced before the season that Sunred could compete with Indian names in order to have a local team at the start at the finals in India.
Brand cups
Sunred also regularly used a large number of vehicles in the Spanish Seat Leon Supercopa and from 2008 to 2010 in the Seat Leon Eurocup . Oscar Nogués won the Eurocup in 2008, in 2009 Freddy Barth was third with Sunred and in the last year of the series Michaël Rossi secured the runner-up.
