Location of Sabrodt in Saxony |
Sabrodt , Upper Sorbian , is a district of the municipality of Elsterheide in Saxony and is about 18 kilometers north of the city of Hoyerswerda , about 11 kilometers southwest of the city of Spremberg and about 25 kilometers southeast of the city of Senftenberg . It belongs to the official Sorbian settlement area .
geography
Sabrodt is located in a heather and lake landscape shaped by lignite mining . In the last two millennia, the landscape structure of the Sabrodter Flur has been subject to major changes. It was once an alluvial forest area with dozens of springs , swamps and clearings . Today, after resembling a lunar landscape for a long time, it is shaped into an extensive lake landscape. The Lusatian chain of lakes extends south and west of Sabrodt .
The upper Landgraben, one of the original source streams of the Sornische Elster , rises in the Sabrodter Flur ; it forms the state border between Saxony and Brandenburg, at the same time it is also the borderline between Upper and Lower Lusatia .
Place name
The name Zabrod is of Sorbian origin and means something like "place behind a ford" - za brod . The history of the place name shows some changes, in 1695 they wrote Sabrode , since 1791 the current spelling Sabrodt has been used .
In 1936 the National Socialists renamed the place in the course of the Germanization of Slavic place names in Wolfsfurt . With the end of the Nazi dictatorship in 1945, the place was able to take its original name again.
Population and language
For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 306 in the 1880s, including 301 Sorbs (98%) and only five Germans. In 1956 Ernst Tschernik counted a Sorbian-speaking population of 72.7%. Since then, the use of Sorbian in the village has continued to decline.
traffic
Road connection
Sabrodt is located directly on the B 156 ( Großräschen - Bautzen ).
Rail connection
The Sabrodt station on the railway line from Schwarze Pumpe to Senftenberg , which was only put into operation in the 1960s and was extensively modernized in the 1980s, was closed for passenger traffic in the early 1990s. The reason for this was the cessation of passenger traffic between Schwarze Pump and Senftenberg in the course of structural change and new open-cast mine developments.
