Sachsendorf , Knorawa in Lower Sorbian , has been a district in the south of Cottbus since 1950 . The large housing estate Sachsendorf-Madlow was built between 1974 and 1986 to the south of the old village center on today's Saarbrücker Straße .

Sachsendorf was first mentioned in a document in 1779.

With 12,000 apartments, it was the largest prefabricated housing estate in the state of Brandenburg. In the meantime, however, numerous residential buildings (approx. 5,000 apartments) have been demolished, especially in the south and east of Sachsendorf, so that large areas have been fallow since then. After the fall of the Wall, social problems and vacancies developed through deindustrialization and plant closures . In 1999 the area was included in the Socially Integrative City program.

Sachsendorf is served by the tram line 4 and the bus lines 13, 14, 16 & 17 of Cottbusverkehr GmbH.
