Sahg is a Norwegian hard rock band from Bergen . The band was formed in 2004 and is under contract with Indie Recordings . Sahg have released five studio albums so far.

history

In 2004 founded Manngard singer Olav Iversen together with the former Gorgoroth - bassist King ov Hell and the guitarist Thomas Tofthagen , who was then with Visnes at Audrey Horne plays the band Sahg. Together with drummer Einar Selvik, the band recorded the EP Godless in 2005 and was signed by Regain Records . A year later, the band released their debut album, simply titled I , which reached number 31 on the Norwegian album charts. Shortly after the completion of the recording, Selvik left the band and was replaced by Tor Bjarne Bjellan.

After the release of the debut album, the band went on a tour through the United States with Celtic Frost and played at Wacken Open Air in 2007 . A year later the band released their second studio album II . Sahg went on a European tour with the band Trouble and played individual concerts, including in India . Drummer Tor Bjarne Bjellan left the band and was replaced by Thomas Lønnheim in 2009. The band signed a new contract with Indie Recordings. In late 2009, the band began work on their third studio album. III was released in August 2010.

In November 2012 the band began recording their fourth studio album, which was due to be released in early 2013. In the meantime Tom Cato Visnes had left the band and was replaced by Tony Vetaas. The album Delusions of Grandeur was released on October 25, 2013. Singer Olav Iversen described the album as a concept album about a megalomaniac who was inspired by films like 2001: A Space Odyssey or Metropolis .

Two years later, guitarist Thomas Tofthagen and drummer Thomas Lønnheim left the band and were replaced by Ole Walaunet and Mads Lilletvedt, respectively. With this line-up, the band recorded their fifth studio album Memento Mori , which was released on September 23, 2016.

style

Sahg play classic hard rock in the style of Black Sabbath and Deep Purple . Occasionally the band also uses influences from Doom Metal or Alternative Rock . Allmusic's Eduardo Rivadavia described Sahg's music as a modern take on the classic heavy metal blueprint. In the run-up to the fourth album Delusions of Grandeur , the musicians were inspired by more modern bands such as Gojira , Kylesa or Mastodon . On Metalnews the band is described as classic Doom Metal and placed between Candlemass , Trouble and Dio . Richard K. from Nonpop, on the other hand, describes the music as “a mixture of desert rock and modern alternative metal , which sometimes even reminds me of Metallica during unhappy ' Load ' times live. This association may also be due to the singing of Olav Iversen, who even after years in the professional music business whistles crookedly through the landscape and is therefore reminiscent of the bard art of James Hetfield .
