Sam Antonitsch (born January 3, 1996 in Villach ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Dornbirn EC in the Austrian ice hockey league since 2019 .
Career
Sam Antonitsch started ice hockey with the Okanagan Vienna Tigers , where his father was a founding member and chairman. At the age of 15 he went to the Okanagan Hockey Academy in St. Pölten and played with their Lower Austria Stars in the Erste Bank Young Stars League (EBYSL). In his last season there, he was one of the strongest players in his team along with Marco Richter and Florian Baltram and scored 41 points in 43 games. His 155 penalty minutes are also the fourth-most a player in a season in the history of the league.
In the summer of 2014 he moved to the Connecticut Junior Rangers in the United States and played mostly in the U18 division of the United States Premier Hockey League , but also received four appearances in the Premier division. For the following season he moved to the Okanagan Hockey Club Europe , also playing in the USPHL , where he came on 34 missions with 24 points and 54 penalty minutes.
At the U20 World Cup (Division IA) in Vienna , Antonitsch took second place with the Austrian U20 national team . In five games he had scored three goals and one assist, making him the team's third-best scorer behind Dominic Zwerger and Floriam Baltram.
In the 2016/17 season Antonitsch played for the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Knights in the North American Junior League, North American Hockey League, and scored 42 points in 57 appearances. In June 2017 the EC VSV from the EBEL announced the commitment of Sam Antonitsch for the following season. He scored his first goal in the league on October 22, 2017 against Vienna Capitals .

Sam Antonitsch is the son of the two former professional tennis players Alexander Antonitsch and Karin Oberleitner . His younger sister Mira is also a tennis player. His paternal grandfather was one of the founding members of the EC VSV in 1923.
