Samalari is an East Timorese Suco in the administrative office of Baguia ( municipality of Baucau ). "Samalari" means " banyan tree " in Makasae .

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Samalari had an area of ​​23.24 km². Now there are 12.17 km². The Suco is located in the northwest of the administrative office of Baguia. To the north is the Suco Lavateri , to the east the Suco Defawasi and to the south the Sucos Alawa Leten , Alawa Craik and Hae Coni . In the west Samalari borders on the administrative office Quelicai with its Sucos Namanei and Guruça . The Iraosso River flows through the east . The Dalassa , which rises in Suco, flows into it from the west and the Danahoe , which comes from the Suco Defawasi, from the east . After the confluence of the Danahoe, the river is called Danahine and flows further south into the Suco Alawa Leten. The rivers are part of the Irebere river system .

Between the river and the border with Defawasi there is an overland road that connects Baucau and Baguia. On it are the villages of Iraosso ( Ira Osso , Ira-Osso , Iraosso ) and Tauchte . There is a primary school in Iraosso, the Escola Primaria catolica Samalari .

In the Suco there are the four Aldeias Daraloi Leten , Daraloi-Craik , Iraosso and Ta Brille .

Residents

1822 inhabitants live in the Suco (2015), of which 938 are men and 884 women. The population density is 149.7 inhabitants / km². There are 358 households in the Suco. Over 95% of the population name Makasae as their mother tongue. The rest of the population speaks Tetum Prasa .

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , Domingos Castelhano was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Paulino da Cruz Castalhano and was at the elections in 2016 re-elected.
