Defawasi ( Defa Uassi , Defa-Uassi , Defauassi , Defawase ) is an East Timorese place, Aldeia and Suco in the administrative office of Baguia ( municipality of Baucau ).

The place

The place Defawasi is located in the north of the Sucos, at an altitude of 715  m . Here is the primary school of sucos , the Escola Primaria catolica Defa Uassi .

1012 inhabitants live in Defawasi (2015), of which 477 are men and 535 women. The population density is 53.1 inhabitants / km². There are 205 households in the Suco. About 90% of the population name Makasae as their mother tongue. The rest of the population speaks Tetum Prasa .

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Defawasi had an area of ​​21.14 km². Now it is 19.05 km². The Suco is in the north of the administrative office of Baguia. To the west are the Sucos Lavateri and Samalari , to the south the Sucos Alawa Leten , Alawa Craik and Larisula and east of the Suco Uacala . In the north, Defawai borders the administrative office of Laga with its Suco Atelari . The Danahoe River , which flows to Samalari, has its source in the northeast of Defawasi . Coming from Uacala, the Mauai follows the border with Larisula. Both are source rivers of the Irebere .

Close to the border with Lavateri is the country road that connects Baucau and Baguia . The village of Buau lies on her . To the east of Defawasi are the villages of Uarou ( Uarau ) and Lari-Bere ( Lari Bere ). In the extreme south is the place Caidauai

In the Suco there are the four Aldeias Defawasi , Lari-Bere , Sae-Meta and Uarou .

history

In September 1976 Defawasi was evacuated by FRETILIN due to the Indonesian invasion. The civilian population was brought to the Matebian , where they were resettled in resistance bases ( bases de apoio ). On November 22, 1978, the bases at Matebian were overrun by the Indonesians.

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was Antonio Guterres Gonjaga elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected. In the 2016 elections , Salustiano Ximenes Guterres won.
