Lavateri is an East Timorese Suco in the administrative office of Baguia ( municipality of Baucau ).

Before the 2015 regional reform, Lavateri had an area of ​​21.25 km². Now there are 20.28 km². The Suco is located in the northwest of the administrative office of Baguia. To the south are the sucos Samalari and Defawasi . In the west Lavateri borders on the administrative office of Quelicai with its Suco Namanei and in the northwest on the administrative office of Laga with its sucos Tequinaumata and Atelari . To the northeast, the Gomilafo River follows part of the border with Suco Atelari. The river belongs to the Dasidara system. The river Iraosso , a source of the Irebere , has its source in the southeast .

Close to the border with Defawasi is the country road that connects Baucau and Baguia . The towns of Ledana ( Ledena ), Fanalolo ( Fanulolo ) and Onortibalari are located on it . There is also a medical station and a primary school, the Escola Primaria Lavateri .

In the Suco there are the five Aldeias Fanalolo , Ledana , Onortibalari , Uabubo and Osso Issi Lari .

Residents

1455 inhabitants (2015) live in Suco, 742 of them are men and 713 are women. The population density is 71.7 inhabitants / km². There are 309 households in the Suco. Over 95% of the population name Makasae as their mother tongue. The rest of the population speaks Tetum Prasa .

history

In 1976, refugees settled in the region before the Indonesian invasion. When the fighting reached Lavateri, they fled to the Matebian . At the end of 1979 there were Indonesian camps for East Timorese in Ledana, who were supposed to be relocated by the occupiers for better control.

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , Julião Viana was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections , Mateus Pereira de Brito won and Geraldo de Viana Soares in 2016 .
