Sammi Kane Kraft (born April 2, 1992 in Livingston , New Jersey , † October 9, 2012 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress , musician and baseball player . She gained international fame in 2005 for her role as Amanda Whurlitzer in the remake of the 1976 classic The Bears Are Going .

On October 9, 2012, at the age of 20, she died in the metropolis of Los Angeles in a traffic accident in which she was involved as a passenger.

Life, career and death

Sammi Kane Kraft was born in 1992 in the small town of Livingston, New Jersey, as the youngest child of Shelly and Lulu Kane Kraft, but grew up in New York State . Kane Kraft was an avid baseball player from a young age and eventually moved with her family from New York to Los Angeles, which has better climates, where she could practice her sport all year round. Already as an eight-year-old she showed her talent when she was the only girl in the Toluca Lake Titans and scored nine strikes in a game in the last inning, turning the game around. In Los Angeles she was discovered by talent scouts on a baseball field and was finally cast in the remake of the 70s classic The Bears Are Going . In the casting, which took place in the Encino district , she was able to convince with a fastball that brought it to 75 mph (120 km / h).

For the film, she was offered the role of Amanda Whurlitzer , originally played by Tatum O'Neal in 1976 . Just two days before The Bears Are Going premiered , Kane Kraft appeared on the US morning show Today ; In this same broadcast, Peggy Friend and Scarlett Johansson appeared alongside her . The US premiere of The Bears Are Going took place on July 22, 2005 . After graduating from El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills in 2010, where she also worked for the school's girls' softball team, she moved to San Francisco . There she enrolled at San Francisco State and was part of the music project Scary Girls , in which she appeared as Sam Kraft, and which produced a mixture of folk, country and rock. In 2012, however, she returned to Los Angeles, where she also moved from San Fran State to Santa Monica College . Back in LA she often appeared as a solo singer, mostly accompanying herself with the guitar.

In the last year before her death, she worked with her older brother Frankie on a musical called Funerals , which they were inspired to write by their grandmother's death. In January 2012, Sammi Kane Kraft gave workshops on this in order to find suitable actors for the production. In the early afternoon of October 9, 2012, she and her friend, the 21-year-old Technical Director Molly Kate Adams , who was also involved in other technical work in film and television, were traveling in a 2007 Audi on Interstate 10 in Los Angeles . The driver of the car, Molly Kate Adams, who was later known to be under the influence of alcohol, first crashed into another car at excessive speed and was then hit by another car with her vehicle. After the two women were trapped in the wreck, the driver with minor injuries was freed from the LAFD and then arrested. Kane Kraft, who was also trapped, was immediately taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center , where she was pronounced dead. The 20-year-old's Jewish burial took place on October 15, 2012 at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery , a Jewish cemetery in Culver City , in western LA.

After her death, her two older brothers Frankie and Bobby founded the film production company Sammi Girl Productions in her memory .
