Sancey-le-Long was a commune in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . Sancey-le-Long is part of the municipality of Sancey and was the northern part of the town of Sancey-l'Église, which was divided into the municipalities of Sancey-le-Long and Sancey-le-Grand .

geography

Sancey-le-Long is located at 505 m, two kilometers northeast of Sancey-le-Grand and about 27 kilometers southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The former street village extends in the Jura , on the eastern edge of the basin of Sancey (Vallon de Sancey) between the heights of the Lomont chain in the north and the high plateaus in the south, on the Ruisseau de la Baume.

The area of the 7.02 km² former municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the basin of Sancey, which forms a 3 km wide plain and is on average 500 m. It is mostly made up of arable and meadow land. The area is drained by the Ruisseau de la Baume west to the Ruisseau de Voitre . In the west, the parish ground reached the height of Orve (up to 640 m).

The community area extended to the south-east into the narrow upper valley section of the Ruisseau de la Baume. The valley is flanked by steep, wooded slopes that are around 100 m high and are crowned by a limestone band at the top in various places. These steep slopes lead to the plateau (650 m) of the next higher layer level , with the Forêt du Chanois et Epaisses in the east and the protrusion of the Bois de l'Ouche in the south-west , on which the highest elevation of Sancey-le- Long was reached. In the extreme south-east of the community floor was the basin-like valley end, which is typical of a layered landscape.

The northern district of Sancey-l'Église (500 m) at the northwest foot of the Bois de l'Ouche and some individual farms belonged to Sancey-le-Long . Neighboring communities of Sancey-le-Long were Rahon and Belvoir in the north, Provenchère in the east, Surmont and Sancey-le-Grand in the south and Orve in the west.

history

Finds from the Bronze and Iron Ages in the Baume de la Roche caves bear witness to the early settlement of the Sancey-le-Long area. Sancey-l'Église established itself as one of the earliest settlements in the Sancey basin. In the Middle Ages, Sancey-le-Long was part of the Belvoir domain. The village was devastated in 1636 by the troops of Duke Bernhard of Saxe-Weimar , with the residents seeking refuge in the caves in the valley of the Ruisseau de la Baume. Together with Franche-Comté , Sancey-le-Long came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

The municipality of Sancey-le-Long merged with Sancey-le-Grand on January 1, 2016 to form the new municipality of Sancey.

In addition, there are now some local small-scale businesses, including two sawmills. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Sancey-le-Grand to Maîche . Other road connections exist with Belvoir and L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs .
