Santa Claus (Orig .: Santa Claus: The Movie ) is an American Christmas film from 1985 . On the one hand it tells the story of Santa Claus ' vocation and on the other a Christmas adventure that two orphans and Patch, the elf , experience.

action

At the beginning of the film, a woodcutter and his wife get caught in a snow storm , from which he is rescued by a group of elves. He is chosen to be the immortal Santa Claus and bring presents to the children every Christmas from now on. He is supported by the elves in making the gifts.

On his travels, Santa Claus finally takes on the orphan boy Joe, who doesn't really want to believe in him.

To increase production, the Elf Patch automates toy making. However, the machines cannot match the usual quality of toys made by hand by elves. This leads to complaints about the Christmas presents. Patch then leaves Santa Claus's workshops.

Patch finally falls into the clutches of toy manufacturer BZ, who want to try to outdo Santa Claus with the plan to establish Christmas Eve 2 . With the help of Joe and the girl Cornelia, Santa Claus manages to thwart these plans and get Patch back.

criticism

"Although it is woodcut-like and a little kitschy, but told in a child-friendly manner, the sometimes poetic story combines its message of mutual trust, kindness and helpfulness with criticism of the excesses of capitalism and advertising and provides quite good entertainment."

Others

The production of this fantasy fairy tale cost $ 50 million. The original English version is 12 minutes longer and spends more time explaining why the old man was chosen to be Santa Claus. On all Blu-rays, and thus also on the German version, there is only the original version, although these 12 unsynchronized minutes are available in the original sound with German subtitles.
