The Sarah Jane Adventures is a British television series and an offshoot of the popular Doctor Who series . The series was produced by BBC Wales between 2006 and 2011 for children's broadcaster CBBC . Like the other offshoot Torchwood , the conception of the series comes from Russell T Davies , the creative director of the Doctor Who series . Unlike Doctor Who , which functions as classic family television, and Torchwood , which is aimed at adult audiences, The Sarah Jane Adventures was produced specifically for younger viewers.

prehistory

The main character of the series is Sarah Jane Smith , who has been working as a freelance investigative journalist since the 1970s - among others on behalf of the magazine "Metropolitan". In the course of her investigative work she met an alien time traveler who calls himself " The Doctor ". She traveled with him through time and space for several years and experienced various adventures. Ultimately, however, they parted ways and the doctor traveled on without them. As consolation for the abrupt farewell, she received a "pet" from him - a mobile computer in the shape of a tinny dog named K-9 .

action

After traveling with the doctor, she initially finds it difficult to cope with her new, old life. She continues her journalistic work, but only after she meets the doctor again - as part of her investigation in the Deffry Vale School ( Doctor Who - episode 2-03: "Class Reunion (School Reunion)") - can Sarah Jane finally get on with the Complete past. Thereupon she devotes herself again to the numerous extraterrestrials who visit Earth.

The pilot of the new series, "Invasion of the Bane", was broadcast as a so-called Holiday Special on January 1, 2007 on BBC1 . The entire first season ran with 10 episodes from the end of September 2007 on the children's channel CBBC Channel . From March 2008 a second season with 12 episodes was produced.

A fifth should be completed in 2011, but leading actress Elisabeth Sladen died in April 2011. The BBC officially announced on May 4, 2011 that the six episodes already filmed would be broadcast as a tribute to Sladen as the final season, but the series has officially ended and no more episodes are shot. Some elements from the Sarah Jane Adventures were included in the follow-up series Wizards vs Aliens . The screenplay for the unfilmed Sarah Jane Adventures episode The Thirteenth Floor was rewritten by Phil Ford into an episode of Wizards vs. Aliens and broadcast under the title of the same name.

German-language publication

On January 15, 2019, Polyband announced the German-language release of the pilot episode Invasion of the Bane . It will be released on DVD on April 5, 2019. From January 31 to February 4, 2019 and from February 14 to 17, 2019, readers could vote online between two or four DVD covers and decide which one they liked best for the DVD.

More articles

Some toys have been released for the Sarah Jane Adventures . These included action figures, Sarah Jane's sonic lipstick, Sarah Jane's scanner clock and an alien communicator. In addition, viewers were offered some free computer games and short video specials on the Sarah Jane Adventures website.

Spin-off

For the fourth season of SJA ( Sarah Jane Adventures ) a spin-off series called The Sarah Jane Alien Files was broadcast on CBBC. The Sarah Jane Alien Files grew out of a series of online videos.

During the first and second season of the series, 40 short videos for each SJA episode were initially published as Mr Smith's data updates on the SJA website. These videos were less than a minute long and covered each of the adventures of Sarah Jane and her friends. The computer Mr. Smith reported briefly on the events in the episodes, in which he combined them with pictures from the episode.

This was followed by six short online videos during the third season, which were published on the SJA website under the name Sarah Janes Alien Files . In these three minute videos, Sarah Jane, Luke, Rani and Clyde talk to Mr Smith about a specific alien or race.

Only then were The Sarah Jane Alien Files released, which were also televised on CBBC from October 11 to November 15, 2010. At 25 minutes, these six episodes are significantly longer than any of the previous online videos. Here Sarah Jane, Luke, Rani, and Clyde each discuss multiple aliens and alien races in one episode.
