The Waldhufendorf Schönbörnchen was mentioned in 1438 as "Schonborn". Regarding the manorial rule, the place belonged as an official village to the Glauchau rule , Hinterglauchau office until the 19th century . After an administrative reform was carried out in the area of the Schönburg recession in 1878, Schönbörnchen came to the newly established Saxon governorate of Glauchau in 1880 . In terms of church, Schönbörnchen was originally parish to Gesau , since 1930 the place has belonged to the parish of Dennheritz - Niederschindmaas . On November 15, 1858, the Zwickau - Chemnitz section of the Dresden – Werdau railway was opened. At the same time, the Glauchau-Schönbörnchen-Gößnitz line was put into operation as a connection to the Leipzig-Hof line. Initially, there was only one branch in Schönbörnchen ; the Schönbörnchen stop was only set up on November 1, 1885 , and has been called Glauchau-Schönbörnchen since October 4, 1931 .

Schönbörnchen was incorporated into Glauchau on October 1, 1929. As a result of the second district reform in the GDR , Schönbörnchen came to the Glauchau district in the Chemnitz district (renamed Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ) as part of the city of Glauchau in 1952 , which was continued in 1990 as the Saxon district of Glauchau and in 1994 in the Chemnitzer district Land and 2008 in the district of Zwickau. Schönbörnchen is now part of the Gesau / Höckendorf / Schönbörnchen district of the large district town of Glauchau.
