history

Schönbrunn probably goes back to a Franconian settlement in the 7th or 8th century. According to a tradition from the late 16th century, Count Gumbert is said to have bequeathed the settlement to the Bishop of Würzburg in 741 . The first documentary mention as "Sconenbrunnen" was in 1125. In 1317 Wolfram von Glizzenberg owned the tithe of three farms in Schönbrunn. The lord of the village with 18 subjects was Fuchs on the Wallburg in 1518 . In 1596 Schönbrunn had 36 stoves and was owned by the Lords of Lichtenstein . Around 1800 Schönbrunn was a Ganerbendorf . The Lichtenstein had 42 Untertane that big of Trockau 4 and the Bishopric of Würzburg 7. Judicial owned the place for centering Eltmann . At the beginning of the 19th century, the von Rotenhan zu Untermerzbach acquired the Lichtenstein share. After that, the goods came into the possession of the local farmers.

Schönbrunn was initially part of the Eltmann parish. In 1390 the parish was changed to the newly founded parish of Stettfeld . The Reformation was introduced in 1563. The services took place in Gleisenau , sometimes also in Rudendorf. The Catholic priest in Stettfeld was responsible for baptisms, weddings and funerals until 1819.

In 1862 the rural community of Schönbrunn was incorporated into the newly created Bavarian district office of Haßfurt and the district court of Eltmann . In 1871 Schönbrunn had 46 residential buildings and 253 inhabitants, of whom 53 were Catholics and 200 were Protestants. In 1900 the 532.76 hectare community had 254 residents and 45 residential buildings. The Catholic residents belonged to the parish of Stettfeld, 3.5 kilometers away. The Protestant residents had belonged to the parish in Gleisenau, 3.0 kilometers away, since 1808, and the denominational school was in the village. In 1925, 243 people, including 43 Catholics and 200 Protestants, lived in 41 residential buildings in Schönbrunn.

In 1950 the village had 321 residents and 40 residential buildings. The local connecting road from Gleisenau via Schönbrunn to Rudendorf was expanded and tarred in 1959 and 1964. In 1970 there were 190 and in 1987 163 residents and 45 residential buildings with 48 apartments.

Schönbrunn has been part of the Ebelsbach community since July 1, 1971. A community center was built in 1974/1975. In 2010 the village became district winner in the national competition "Our village should be more beautiful, our village has a future ".
