The Schöntaler Bach is one kilometer from his mündungsfernsten source about 3 long stream in mainhardt forest in northern Baden-Wuerttemberg , which at the municipal and district boundary between Großerlach in Rems-Murr-Kreis and Mainhardt in Schwäbisch Hall something rotabwärts the former Hankertsmühle of Mainhardt flows from the right and southwest into the central reaches of the Fichtenberger Rot .

geography

swell

The Schöntaler Bach arises on the north-east slope and foot of the slope, which is rich in springs, of the almost entirely wooded Hohen Brach , with the summit at 586.9  m above sea level. NHN the highest point of the entire Swabian-Franconian forest mountains . Two springs at the origin of the main line arise close together at only about 510  m above sea level. NHN , the outflow of a near third soon strengthens the young brook. The highest spring with a noticeably longer branch, on the other hand, rises at around 570  m above sea level. NHN only about 400 meters northwest of the high point of the flat mountain cap on the edge of the district road K 1903 from Großerlach to Grab ; its half-kilometer and thus noticeably longer source branch runs northeast down the slope and at the west-southwest tip of an elongated clearing around the Großerlacher Schöntalhöfle , which is also called Schertelshöfle, joins the main strand guest.

course

Then the brook runs around 750 meters along the southern edge of the clearing to Waldgewann Buch on the lower slope of the Brach, runs through a quarter-hectare-sized pond with a small island near the Schöntalhöfle, after which it is followed by a second long slope, Fuchsklingenbach from the mountain forest, this time even one kilometer Length, which rises near the eastern secondary summit of the Brach and the hamlet of Hohenbrach there, also next to the district road. Shortly afterwards, the stream crosses under at around 460  m above sea level. NHN the access road from Grab to Schöntalhöfle. Here it turns to the northeast, flows between the Schöntalhöfle on the left hill slope and the Schöntalsägmühle on the right bank and then immediately enters the Schöntal forest permanently .

At a small clearing, the district and municipality boundary to Mainhardt reaches the run from the north and then follows it to the mouth. In the area of a multiple fork of a forest path that now follows the stream to the left, accompanied by the Limes hiking trail, the route of the Limes crosses the small valley from Grab in the south-southeast to Mainhardt in the north-northwest. On the section from Grab, on the dead straight old boundary line, lies the Säugraben , a conspicuous terrain notch, several times as deep and wide as a typical ravine and sometimes drained by a small trickle. Little after the last major tributary runs from the Gülden blade to even it again from the right direction Schönbronn the southeast.

After the Schöntaler Bach on the Rottalrand has crossed a small river- accompanying farm road , it flows out at 403.3  m above sea level. NHN from the right into the middle course of the Fichtenberger Rot , moving eastwards in the narrow, open forest valley floor , between the now desolate locations of the Mainhardter Hankertsmühle rot up and the Schönbronn Sägmühle rot downwards .

Catchment area

The Schöntaler Bach drains about 3.0 km² on the northeastern slope of the Hohen Brach and in its apron overall northeast to the Rot. The catchment area in the lower nature area Hinterer Mainhardter Wald of the Swabian-Franconian Forest borders immediately to the north on the regionally important watershed between the Fichtenberger Rot and thus the Kocher in the north and the Murr in the south. Beyond the ridge line over the two Brach peaks run in the southeast of the Trauzenbach and in the southwest of the Harbach zur Murr, in front of the western slope the Ochsenbächle moves from the northwestern slope of the Hohen Brach to the upward Rot, in front of which the smaller catchment area of the Palmklinge is inserted closer to the Rotlauf . On the east side, too, only a smaller stream competes with the Rot near the mouth, but on the southern half of the border the Mühlbach , which clearly exceeds the Schöntaler Bach in terms of length and catchment area , runs eastwards and flows into the downward Rot at the Lower Kornberger Sägmühle from Oberrot .

Settlements are the Schöntalhöfle / Schertelshöfle on the left a little above the, the Schöntalsägmühle on the right of the stream at the middle course bend. About half of the hamlet of Hohenbrach on the eastern Brach summit, half of the village of Grab and only a few houses from Schönbronn on the eastern watershed are still in the catchment area . They all belong to the municipality of Großerlach in the Rems-Murr district , which is over 90% of the area. The rest, a wooded and uninhabited area wedge to the left of the lower reaches and the mouth, belongs to the municipality of Mainhardt in the district of Schwäbisch Hall .

Tributaries and lakes

Origin of the Schöntaler Bach at a little over 510  m above sea level. NHN at the northeast foot of the Hohen Brach ( 586.9  m above sea level ) about 0.9 km west-southwest of the Großerlacher Schöntalhöfles / Schertelshöfles in the forest before the fire path . Here two springs are close together, the runoff initially runs to the northeast.

  • (Forest inflow), from the left and west to about 492  m above sea level. NHN shortly before the edge of the forest to the clearing around the Schöntalhöfle, approx. 0.2 km and less than 0.1 km². Rises at about 520  m above sea level. NHN a source about 100 meters north of the main sources. The main branch up to this point has almost the same length and almost the same catchment area.
  • (Hangwaldbach), from the right and southwest to about 490  m above sea level. NHN a stone's throw after the previous one at the edge of the forest, 0.5 km and under 0.1 km². Rises at about 570  m above sea level. NHN on the K 1903 Großerlach - Grab less than 0.4 km northeast of the Brach summit. With this upper course, the Schöntaler Bach would have a length of 3.0 km. This now flows eastward on the southern edge of the clearing.
  • (Inconsistent slope forest stream), from the left and southwest to about 478  m above sea level. NHN shortly before the next, about 0.6 km on the longest branch and about 0.2 km². Arises at over 565  m above sea level. NHN a little below the county road.
    • RiverIcon-SmallLake.svgA shorter right branch of this inlet flows through to below 490  m above sea level. NHN a forest pond on a developed forest path, 0.1 ha.
  • RiverIcon-SmallLake.svgFlows through at about 470  m above sea level. NHN a pond with a small island near the Schöntalhöfle, over 0.2 ha.
  • Fuchsklingenbach , from the right and southwest to over 465  m above sea level. NHN opposite the Schöntalhöfle, 1.0 km and approx. 0.4 km². Rises at about 569  m above sea level. NHN on the edge of the county road under the eastern sub-peak of the Hohen Brach (approx. 575  m above sea level ) near the hamlet of Großerlach- Hohenbrach .
After this inflow, the stream crosses under the access road to the Schöntalhöfle von Großerlach- Grab , turns between the Schöntalhöfle and the Großerlacher Schöntalsägmühle on the right bank opposite to the north-east course and enters the eastern part of the Schöntal forest .
  • (Stream from the Güldenklinge ), from the right and southeast to about 428  m above sea level. NHN shortly after the stream crossing of the Limes route, which is accompanied by the Limes hiking trail , 0.7 km and approx. 0.5 km². Arises at about 474  m above sea level. NHN on the edge of the Gulden corridor (!) To the Reute forest near the Großerlach hamlet of Schönbronn . Here the brook has been the municipality and district boundary for a while between Großerlach in the Rems-Murr district on the right and a small wedge of forest markings south of the Fichtenberger Rot from Mainhardt in the Schwäbisch Hall district on the left and remains so until the mouth.

Mouth of the Schöntaler Bach at 403.3  m above sea level. NHN about 400 meters down the former Mainhardter Hankertsmühle from the right and south-west into the middle Fichtenberger Rot . The main stretch of the stream is 2.7 km long, with its longest upper course 3.0 km long and has a 3.0 km² catchment area.

geology

The highest springs up on the northeast slope of the Hohen Brach arise on the border to one of the Lower Jurassic islands, which are located on some larger elevations in the southern Mainhardt Forest; The basal Psilonotenton-Formation of the Black Jurassic is groundwater retaining and often gives rise to stratified springs on the slope . On the upper slope, the layer island is surrounded by a ring of marl ( Trossingen formation ). The courses of the Schöntaler Bach and the main sections of its upper tributaries up to the Fuchsklingenbach then lie in the Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein Formation ) of the Middle Keuper , which also covers most of the catchment area. After that, after the bend to the northeast, the Schöntaler Bach quickly cuts through the Upper Bunter Marl ( Mainhardt Formation ) and then runs well before the inflow from the Güldenklinge and to the mouth in the silica sandstone ( Hassberge Formation ).

The eastward moving upper reaches of the Schöntaler Bach follows a suspected fault line. Immediately after the kink, a proven fault line crosses the Bachklinge.

Nature and protected areas

In at least four places, in Gewann Hohfeld west of Grab and in the clearing around Schöntalhöfle, there are seepage springs and wet meadows. At the southern edge of this clearing there is a near-natural stream section, a larger one extends from the entrance into the Schöntal forest to the crossing Limestrasse. The little downward tapering gold blade with its small secondary blades is also close to nature. In the rest of the open country there are some field hedges.

Almost two thirds of the area is forested. Most of the open corridor is on the eastern edge in the common clearing island around Grab and Schönbronn, where the meadows dominate.

The drainage area of the Schöntaler Bach lies in the Schwäbisch-Franconian Forest Nature Park , the mouth in a landscape protection area along the Rot. A water protection area is established on the upper slope of the eastern Hohen Brach, which is mostly on this side of the mountain ridge.
