Conductors' meal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schafferinnenmahl in Bremen is an annual forum for women political issues in the House of the Bremen Citizenship . The aim of the event is, according to its own understanding, to develop cross-party networks among women.

Around 100 women are invited to this feast on a day in autumn, as well as a guest of honor as a speaker on a women's political issue. The event, which is unique in Germany, is organized by the Working Group of Social Democratic Women .

The Schafferinnenmahl was founded in 1975 as a protest event against the renowned Schaffermahlzeit of the Bremen business leaders and captains of the Haus Seefahrt Foundation , which dates back to the Renaissance period and so far has almost completely excluded women from the event, which is considered to be networking among the Bremen business elite and the flagship of the Hanseatic city.

Political environment when it was founded in 1975

In 1975, the International Year of Women and a high point of the New Women's Movement in Germany and the Bremen Women's Movement , the Working Group of Social Democratic Women (ASF) brought the Schafferinnenmahl to life in Bremen . The women of the ASF were tired of demanding the inclusion of women on the guest list of the Schaffermahlzeit, which was exclusively made up of male celebrities from business, politics and culture. Since then, the Schafferinnenmahl has been held as a festive meal every autumn in the House of the Bremen Citizenship , which is understood as a conscious choice of location, as political decisions are made there and the democratic and social rights of the citizens are given legal form.

Objectives and public perception

The aim of the creators is to provide a forum for women's political issues , also through the election of well-known guests of honor as speakers, but also to draw attention to socially important contributions by women who are less well known. The basic objective is networking to promote solidarity among women through the exchange of ideas, mutual encouragement and joint action.

The media perception of this deliberate alternative to the Schaffermahlzeit is much lower than that despite the social objectives that are highly rated by parliaments and legislation and well-known speakers such as Jutta Limbach , Margot Käßmann or Heide Simonis .
