Schaidt is a district of the city of Wörth am Rhein in Rhineland-Palatinate in the district of Germersheim . It is located on the western edge of the Bienwald and used to be the center of the Palatinate wicker industry. After their decline, other medium-sized industries were successfully established. In addition, the place is increasingly taking on the function of a resort. A work for car radios and navigation systems is economically significant.

history

Schaidt should have existed as early as the 8th century. After the first documentary mention as "Spirgesceid", Heinrich III. from the house of Salier Schaidt on September 5, 1046 the Hochstift Speyer . The village received ditch and thus became a fortified spots with court seat. The place was on the border between Hochstift Speyer and Kloster zu Weißenburg . Even today, the district stones with the emblems of the bishopric and monastery can be found along the old border.

Since June 10, 1979, the previously independent municipality of Schaidt has been a district of the city of Wörth am Rhein.

Schaidt celebrated its 950th anniversary in 1996 and "600 years Flecken Schaidt" in 2006.

In Schaidt there was a Schaidt Innovations plant with 530 employees. The factory was founded in 1970 as a subsidiary of Becker-Autoradio in Ittersbach . In 1995 Harman International took over the company. At the end of 2010, Harman Becker announced that he would close or sell the Schaidter plant. In April 2013 the factory was taken over by two Munich businessmen and renamed Schaidt Innovations . After a bankruptcy, Webasto took over the plant with 170 employees in January 2017.

Schaidt is on the Neustadt – Wissembourg railway line and is part of the Karlsruhe Transport Association (KVV) and the Rhein-Neckar Transport Association (VRN). Regional trains in both directions stop every hour at the Schaidt stop .

The church has four bells. The smallest bell with 14 hundredweight is dedicated to St. Wendelinus and Sebastianus. The next two bells, 21 and 30 hundredweight, are named “Ave Maria” and “Pope Leo”. The largest bell with 52 quintals is dedicated to the "Christ King". The church tower and choir of the parish church, built around 1480, date from the late Gothic period. In 1969 and 1970 there was a major renovation of the nave, which now stands in a north-south direction between the tower and choir.

The spacious nave offers space for over 1000 believers. You can also see the ceiling paintings and stucco work. After the renovation in 1970, a new organ was installed in the gallery. With 580 pipes it is the musical instrument that accompanies church services and choral singing.

The Christmas crib, which is over 60 m² in size, is worth seeing at Christmas time. This recreated “Bethlehem” can be seen from the fourth Sunday in Advent until the “Maria Lichtmess” on February 2nd.
