An automatic gearshift (also English: Quickshifter) is a device originating from motorcycle and kart racing that makes it possible to change gears at full load (acceleration) without actuating the clutch.

function

The vision of shortening gearshifts stems from racing , since with conventional gearshifts pulling the clutch results in shift pauses and time is lost; In addition, the interruption in tractive power causes a glitch into the chassis. The result was the driving technique without when accelerating domes to switch, while the gas is withdrawn at short acceleration process to the gears to relieve, and immediately changed to the new gear. In the long run, however, this places greater stress on gears, shift sleeves and claws and the rest of the drive train.

The automatic gearshift enables a clean gear change by sending a signal to the control electronics , this also applies to the smooth restart of the ignition . When the shift lever is operated, a sensor (usually attached to the shift linkage) sends a signal to the control unit. This interrupts the ignition for a few milliseconds. This takes the load off the transmission gears and enables quick gear changes without clutching and closing the throttle. An automatic gearshift works most gently at high speeds (over 6000 rpm).

Since the mid-2010s, “gearshift assistants” have been available ex works for sporty motorcycles, which not only interrupt the tractive effort when upshifting, but also when downshifting , by influencing the electronically controlled throttle valves ( Electronic Power Control , “E-Gas” ) Master the required double- declutching without a clutch .
