Schande is a multi-award-winning television film by the directing duo Claudia Prietzel and Peter Henning . The abuse of a young girl in the middle of her family is discussed.

action

Caretaker Schrotfeld complains again and again. In the elevator of the apartment block, huge letters were written on the wall in lipstick:

"WHO HELPS ME?
NO ONE!"

He suspects Bénice, but she denies everything and claims to have seen an unknown sixteen-year-old. Her mother and Joschi protect her. Bénice has a light flag, and Claudia suspects that Hubertus gave Bénice alcohol at the meeting a few hours ago. Bénice denies this and the dispute is fruitless.

The next day is Benice's birthday. Everything is prepared for a small celebration with lots of gifts. Joschi gives her a diamond ring to start with. Claudia quickly takes care of the laundry and discovers a sperm stain in her daughter's panties. She confronts Bénice. She doesn't say anything at all, pulls her panties on, locks herself in the bathroom and washes the Corpus Delicti off. Eventually she is taken under protection by Joschi. At Bénice's age you don't have to over-dramatize something like that. The little celebration continues until the doorbell rings. It is Hubertus who wants to pick up Bénice for the big birthday party he has arranged. Claudia claims that Bénice does not want to see her father and makes hints: "... What happened there ... got drunk ..." Hubertus is uncomprehending and beside himself, but can do nothing and drives away. Claudia claims to her daughter that the father cannot see Bénice today.

Hubertus takes advice from his lawyer and complains about Claudia's harassment . He's rented a restaurant, invited many guests, and Ria will even perform with her school band . The lawyer advises not to take any action that could endanger the divorce.

Joschi and Claudia go for a walk with Bénice. Bénice keeps going in circles on her roller skates until she is out of sight. Bénice runs to the restaurant and arrives just in time for the opening of the party. Ria sings rebellious songs and Bénice comes alive. After the performance ends, Ria is waved outside by her mother. Claudia asks whether the father has ever "done something to her". Ria reacts very angrily and believes in an intrigue of the mother to make the father bad. She runs away. Hubertus continues the argument until they both notice that Bénice is gone.

Bénice has taken her father's birthday present - a dog named Nuschi - and is wandering around. Eventually she is found by Petro and taken home.

The next day, Bénice had a severe bruise in his right eye. Joschi takes care of it. Bénice claims to her mother that she fell against the banister while fleeing from the caretaker.

Claudia goes to her lawyer with Bénice. A ban on handling and contact with Hubertus is not possible without evidence . Bénice would have to make a statement. At home, Bénice is processed accordingly by Claudia and Joschi until she confirms the statements that Joschi has put in her mouth with a quiet “yes” or “no” or only nods. When Bénice is in bed, Joschi advises against making too much fuss. That wouldn't be good for the child.

At the divorce date, Hubertus' lawyer applies for full custody of Bénice due to the recent incidents . This causes Claudia to spontaneously exclaim “So that you can fuck her better!” Claudia's lawyer presents Joschi's transcript of Bénice's statement. The appointment is postponed and the judge orders a ban on contact.

Bénice once again overshadows her piano lesson. She is very familiar with her teacher and is comfortable. Joschi picks them up. During the drive, he describes the upcoming medical examination in gloomy colors.

Hubertus speaks to Petro. She now also believes in abuse and suspects the piano teacher.

The next day, Bénice is supposed to go back to piano lessons, but instead Joschi goes with her to a luxury boutique and buys an expensive cocktail dress. Then he goes home with her. She takes a bubble bath, and it becomes obvious (even for the last viewer) what Joschi wants from her. Resistance is not accepted.

While Bénice is once again exposed to the violence of her stepfather, Hubertus storms into the piano teacher's apartment. Of course he doesn't meet Bénice. The two discuss together what could be with Bénice.

When Claudia comes home, everything is fine in the apartment, at least externally.

Petro reads to Hubertus from a non-fiction book how children can come to false statements: “Statistically speaking, most abusers are divorced men who marry mothers with daughters. Those from the BKA call that criminal offenses. ”Hubertus drives to Claudia and gives her his opinion. She doesn't believe a word of him: "Joschi is not a pig like you."

The next day, Bénice meets her sister practicing. Ria encourages her until Bénice finally confesses what Joschi does to her again and again. The injury to the head also comes from him. Ria says that Joschi tried it with her too and that's why she moved out. Ria wants to inform her father immediately, but Bénice is terrified. Joschi supposedly has a pistol and will kill Bénice, the mother, himself or someone else.

Claudia takes Bénice to the police and repeatedly admonishes them to tell the truth. In the face-to-face interview, the girl actually tells the truth. The policewoman, initially very surprised, immediately sets the procedure for Joschi's arrest in motion and has to prevail against considerable resistance from the judge responsible. Claudia is stunned and fails to take care of Bénice.

Bénice comes home alone and meets Joschi. To their delight, he has the dog Nuschi, who has been refused so far, with him. But then he harasses and threatens her, holds the dog over the balcony railing and threatens to drop him at the next “false statement”. Bénice promises, but Joschi drops Nuschi anyway and forces Bénice to look at the shattered corpse.

When Claudia comes home, everyone pretends that nothing has ever happened.

The next morning Joschi is arrested. Bénice is petrified. While the patrol car drives away, Claudia leans over the balcony railing and has to be held. She asks Bénice to stop telling "this twisted stuff": "Then I don't want to live anymore."

At Joschi's trial, Bénice barely notices what is happening around her. She is harassed and revokes her statement. Joschi already believes she is safe when Ria enters the hall and presents a tape. A tape was playing during Ria's piano practice and accidentally recorded Bénice's statement. While Bénice is hardly aware of her surroundings, Joschi is sentenced to several years in prison without parole .

Claudia is cared for by Ria after a nervous breakdown. Bénice looks on, completely petrified. Finally she walks slowly onto the balcony, looks down, takes off her chain and places it on the parapet , climbs up and lets herself fall over.

main characters

Bénice will soon be 13 years old and lives with her mother and her partner Joschi. Bénice loves father and mother alike and suffers from the separation of her parents. At home she is noticeably quiet and withdrawn. Outside of life, she revives, especially when she is with her father, sister or playing the piano she loves.

Claudia is Bénice's mother. She is in a divorce and the divorce date is imminent. She loves Bénice and Joschi and hates her husband. Claudia cares about her daughter's problems, but her bias is misleading.

Josef Torgau, known as Joschi, works as a dental technician and can afford to give his new family expensive gifts. He is calm, confident and is always understanding and caring.

Hubertus is Bénice's father and lives with her aunt Petronella. He loves Bénice very much and takes care of her, but this becomes increasingly problematic because of Claudia's resistance.

Ria is Benice's older sister. She hates Joschi, so she moved from home and lives alone. She has a good relationship with Bénice and supports her when necessary.

Petronella called Petro is Claudia's sister, so Bénice's aunt and (presumably) the reason for the separation of Hubertus and Claudia. She maintains good contact with Bénice, but only finds access to a certain extent.

criticism

"Committed drama that focuses on the needs of the girl and attentively registers the repressions with which the environment overhears his desperate signals."
