The Schleifbach is an orographic left or southern tributary of the Levester Bach in the area of the municipality of Wennigsen and the city of Barsinghausen in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony ( Germany ), about 7.2 kilometers long .

geography

The Schleifbach arises in the Deister in a source area between the forests of Suerser Brink and Kniggenbrink, southwest of the Wennigser district of Wennigser Mark . It flows through the western area of Wennigser Mark, crosses under the L 391 and the Deisterbahn . The brook forms a section of the eastern outskirts of the Barsinghausen district of Egestorf . It continues to flow in the low-slope Deister foreland and joins the Levester Bach south-southwest of Leveste . Only the approximately 4.6 kilometers of the course of the stream from the crossing of the L 391 fall under the responsibility of the water maintenance association.

The Schleifbach flows in the natural areas Barsinghausen-Deister (378.30) and Gehrdener Lößhügel (521.01).

history

In the 19th century, hard coal was extracted from tunnels driven from the Schleifbachtal in Suerser Brink and Kniggenbrink . The transport used the neighboring valleys of Forellenbach and Stockbach .

In the 18th and 19th centuries there were several grinding mills on the Schleifbach to the south-east of what was then the village of Egestorf .

environment

The upper reaches of the abrasive is in the Bach Deister in the conservation area 23 North Deister LSG-H.

At the transition into the Calenberger flange and in that the abrasive stream runs in sections of trees lined. The continuity of the brook is restricted by several piped road or path crossings and sections drying out in summer.

flora

In the Deister, mainly beech forests grow along the Schleifbach . The landscape framework plan of the Hanover region assumes, without further investigation, an acidic beech forest of the mountain and hill country on base-poorly weathered Wealden sandstone .

In Egestorf, the Schleifbach runs along the western edge of the LSG-H 71 Langreder Mark conservation area. For its protection purposes include securing the structure rich region at the transition from Deister in the plane, and the maintenance and development of the watercourses of the abrasive stream and the influent Allerbach by creating buffer strips , crosslinking of forest areas and tree plantings.

Water quality

The water quality of the upper reaches of the Schleifbach is classified as grade I. Below the populated area, this is reduced to quality class II.

Sights and buildings

Above the source overhang of the abrasive Bach was from the Deister wash house of the former Upper Sürsserbrinker tunnel resulting grinding Bach hut . The hut, which was converted into accommodation for youth groups in the 1960s, burned down in July 2016.

In the lower area of the Deister on the Schleifbach there are still remnants of the old König-Wilhelm-Stollen . The new König-Wilhelm-Stollen or railway tunnel, protected as a natural monument , is located on the slope of the Kniggenbrink about 500 m north.
