The Malmsbach Castle is located in the district Malmsbach the municipality Schwaig in Middle Franconia .

history

Gottfried von Brauneck-Hohenlohe came into possession of the castle, which previously belonged to the Lords of Gründlach , through marriage . He sold it in 1323 to the burgrave of Nuremberg , Friedrich IV. Malmsbach is mentioned in a document for the first time in the purchase contract. The castle, located at the gates of Nuremberg, was of great strategic importance as an outpost. Before the First Margrave War , Albrecht Achilles , then Margrave of Ansbach , acquired the property. At the beginning of the war, Nuremberg soldiers invaded Malmsbach in 1449 and destroyed the castle.

After the reconstruction, various influential Nuremberg patrician families belonged to the owners of the property over the following centuries , including the Haller von Hallerstein until 1540 . The last owner of the castle was the Grundherr family before the buildings in the complex were sold individually in 1833. The buyer of the castle and chapel, an entrepreneur from Röthenbach an der Pegnitz , had both demolished and used the stones to expand his paper mill . The gatehouse and the outbuildings of the castle, which was originally from the Middle Ages , are still standing today.
