Metternich Castle

The castle Metternich , also home Metternich , House Heppingen and Heppinger courtyard called, is a mansion in Heppingen , a district of Bad Neuenahr in Rhineland-Palatinate district of Ahrweiler . It is a cultural monument worth protecting .

history

The building at Burgstrasse 30 in Heppingen was inhabited by the imperial counts branch of the widespread Wolff-Metternich family until 2018 . This branch has its headquarters at Schloss Gracht in Liblar .

Metternich Castle in Heppingen was bought by Franz Josef Wolff-Metternich in 1736 and only served as the family residence from 1920 when Josef Wolff-Metternich moved in. He was the founder of the company "Eifelfango Chemisch-Pharmazeutische Werke" in Bad Neuenahr.

In 2018 the chef and restaurant operator Hans Stefan Steinheuer bought the property.

The manor house, originally a moated castle of the Counts of Manderscheid-Blankenheim (first mentioned in 1617), was built at the beginning of the 18th century as a two-storey baroque building with a hipped roof . Only a few decorative elements such as window cornices , the decorated portal and the eaves give it a stately appearance. The eight-axis structure has a small gable above the portal with an oval window in the gable field. The later attachment of an axle on the left and two axles on the right create the asymmetry .
