The Schmalnau , also called Rommerser Wasser in the upper and middle reaches , in the Rhön is an approximately 10.7 km long, south-eastern and orographically left tributary of the Fulda in the Fulda district in East Hesse ( Germany ).
course
The Schmalnau, which runs exclusively in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve and the Hessian Rhön Nature Park , has its source as Rommerser Wasser in the Hohen Rhön . Its source is south-east of the village of Rommers (south-south-west part of Gersfeld (Rhön) ) on the northern edge of the Haderwald nature reserve (NSG No. 318486), which was founded in 1997 and is around 17.83 km² in size. It is located on the northwest flank of the Rommerser Berg ( 850.2 m above sea level ) at an altitude of about 628 m .
Initially, the Rommerser Wasser, which runs mostly northwest through the Milseburger Kuppenrhön, passes the village of Rommers, where the Teufelsgraben flows from the north , and the deserted Altenhirza there , where the Veitengrundgraben flows from the south . Sections of it form the northern border of the Haderwald nature reserve . Then along Kreisstraße 66 it reaches the confluence of the Gichenbach , the longest tributary of the Schmalnau, coming from the south . After this, the flowing water , which is called Schmalnau from there , runs through the Gersfeld village of Gichenbach .
Then the Schmalnau flows into the municipality of Ebersburg , where it runs through the district of Schmalnau , in the village, after passing the town center and ultimately running north along the K 69, at about 350 m altitude in the Weser coming from the east there - Source river to flow into Fulda .
