Geographical location

The place is in the forest-free area of the Hornburger Saddle on the road from Eisleben to Bornstedt .

Schmalzerode is a street village with a southern extension. It was built on the road from Helfta to Klosterrode and was in the Bornstedt office .

Until January 1, 2005, Schmalzerode was the main town of the administrative community Am Hornburger Sattel , with its dissolution it came to the administrative community of Lutherstadt Eisleben . On January 1st, 2009 Schmalzerode was incorporated into Eisleben.
