The cul-de-sac village of Schmielsdorf is located in the south of the Fläming , about halfway between Jüterbog and Herzberg (Elster) . Surrounding villages are Ahlsdorf in the northeast, Schönewalde in the southeast, Brandis in the southwest, Horst in the west and Hartmannsdorf and Stolzenhain in the northwest. Schmielsdorf is located at a junction from the state road 72 and about six kilometers east of the border with Saxony-Anhalt .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1419 as Smylsdorff , the place name goes back to a Sorbian personal name. The place belonged to the office of Schweinitz and was therefore part of the Electorate of Saxony since it was first mentioned . In 1806 the Electorate of Saxony was elevated to the Kingdom of Saxony . As a result of the division of the Kingdom of Saxony through the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , Schmielsdorf belonged to the Province of Saxony in the Kingdom of Prussia from 1815 and was assigned to the district of Schweinitz in the administrative district of Merseburg the following year .

In the 1875 and 1890 censuses, Schmielsdorf had 100 inhabitants each. After the dissolution of the province of Saxony on July 1, 1944, Schmielsdorf belonged to the new province of Halle-Merseburg . After the end of the Second World War, the place became part of the Soviet occupation zone and came there to the state of Saxony-Anhalt . From 1949 Schmielsdorf belonged to the GDR. On July 1, 1950, the Schweinitz district was renamed the Herzberg district .

During the GDR territorial reform on July 25, 1952, the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the district of Herzberg were dissolved and the community of Schmielsdorf came to the reduced district of Herzberg in the district of Cottbus . On January 1, 1974 Schmielsdorf was incorporated into Schönewalde. After reunification , the place initially belonged to the Herzberg district in Brandenburg and to the Schönewalde office founded in 1992 . The district of Herzberg was merged with the districts of Bad Liebenwerda and Finsterwalde in the new district of Elbe-Elster on December 6, 1993 . The office Schönewalde was dissolved in 2001.
