Schwödiau is a place in the Traunviertel in Upper Austria and belongs to the municipality of Wolfern in the Steyr-Land district .

geography

The place is about 3½ kilometers northwest of the city of Steyr . It is located in the southeastern Traun-Enns-Platte in the headwaters of the Dietachbach , at around 380  m above sea level. A. Height. The place has only 10 addresses, on both sides of the road from Wolfern via Neustift to Gleink .

history

The place name is already documented in 1311, called is "daz lehen datz swetigau ". The name stands for “swetig”, “moist” (especially “moisture secreting”, also: “bloody”, cf. sweating ) in the sense of “soft, spongy Au ”. This name can also be found in another place north of Dietach .

The village can be found around 1750 as Schwödiau and Derfl . These included the scattered houses in Im Dörfl near Judendorf and the Wolferner shares of Kerschberg . It has not been listed as such since 2015.
