Music and lyrics

According to their own information, Schwarzer Engel plays a modern form of dark metal. The influences range from melodic death metal to symphonic metal to classical music , which can be seen in orchestral passages. Jason names Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir as influences , bands like Rammstein and ASP are also clearly recognizable as influences. Although the style of music is more based on metal, it is also received in the black scene.

The texts are very gloomy and deal with socially critical topics as well as legends and natural phenomena. The gloom of the texts can be specifically linked to the motifs of night and death. The night is explicitly mentioned in Ghosts and Demons , Dream of a Night , Lullaby (stillborn) , Queen of the Night and Midnight . On the debut album, the theme of the end of the world runs like a red thread through the lyrics. Religious and metaphysical themes also play a major role on the following albums , for example in Half God , Black Sun , The Wrath of God and Hymn for Death . In addition, questions about the ego and personality are often asked. Examples of this are Divided into Two , Half God and Psychopath .
