Swiss Association of Liberal Democratic Women

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Association of Liberal Democratic Women (SVFF) was founded in 1949 as an independent association that was not represented on the Executive Committee of the Liberal Democratic Party . In 1994 she was renamed FDP Women Switzerland .

Structure and goals

The founders of the association were free-spirited women's groups from several cantons , the SVFF was organized as a common umbrella organization in a suburban system . The goals of the association were to support free-spirited politics, the protection of women's interests within the FDP and an increased commitment to political equality for women. In 1971, the introduction of women's suffrage was achieved, among the first 12 women parliamentarians elected to the Federal Assembly were 4 free-minded women: Lise Girardin , the only Swiss Councilor at the time, and National Councilors Tilo Frey , Martha Ribi and Liselotte Spreng. The anchoring of equality in the Federal Constitution (1981) and the adoption of the partnership law on marriage (1985) were also important successes of the SVFF.

From 1949 to 1991 the presidium was set up on tour by the cantonal section presidents. Since 1976 the president of the respective Swiss free-thinking women’s organization has been a member of the management of the FDP Switzerland. In 1991 the Swiss Association of Liberal Democratic Women was reorganized, instead of a suburban system, a nationwide association with a joint board was established. A new assembly of delegates was established, which meets annually and elects the president and the board. The association changed its name to FDP-Frauen Schweiz in 1994 .
