FDP women Switzerland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

FDP. The Liberals Women Switzerland (FDP-Women Switzerland for short) is the umbrella organization for around 40 cantonal and regional women's groups of the FDP The Liberals party . It was created in 2007 through the merger of the women's organizations of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Liberal Party of Switzerland .

Susanne Vincenz-Stauffacher , National Councilor of St. Gallen , has been president since 2020 . Vice-president is Petra Studer.

goals and tasks

FDP Women Switzerland is an independent association under Swiss law (Art. 60ff. ZGB ) with its headquarters in Bern, which is politically, personally and organizationally very closely linked to the “FDP.The Liberals” party. Accordingly, the FDP women basically pursue the same political goals as the mother party, but take specific women's concerns and gender issues into account to a greater extent. They have around 5,000 collective members from the cantonal and regional FDP-Liberal women's groups, as well as around 200 direct members.

The association provides a framework for contacts and exchanges among women politicians within the party, channels external links to other women's organizations and also goes public with political issues under its own name. The concerns that the FDP Women Switzerland represent, according to their own statements, include, for example, greater participation of women in politics, business and society in general, family-friendly teaching models with block times, flexible working time models, tax relief for families and more competition in childcare structures instead of their direct subsidization (childcare vouchers for families) in particular.

Before March 1, 2007, the merger of the women's organizations of the Liberal Democratic Party (FDP) and the Liberal Party of Switzerland (LPS), he formed the Swiss umbrella organization for liberal women.

Parliamentary group

In March 2007, the FDP women started the first own federal election campaign in its history, which she described as rewarding as their share in the National Council on the occasion of the parliamentary elections in 2007 could be increased from 6 to 8 seats. However, 3 instead of 4 FDP women were elected to the Council of States .

In 2015, only seven FDP women were elected to the National Council and there is only one FDP woman in the Council of States, Karin Keller-Sutter . Thus 8 women parliamentarians belong to the FDP-Liberal parliamentary group .

History

The umbrella organization was founded in 1949 under the name of the Swiss Association of Liberal Democratic Women (SVFF) in the suburb system through the amalgamation of Liberal women's groups that existed in various cantons before the Second World War . The aims of the association were to support liberal politics and the protection of women's interests within the Liberal Democratic Party . Her main concern was initially political equality for women, which was introduced through the introduction of women's suffrage at the state level in 1971. Among the 1971 first selected 12 MPs of the Federal Assembly were 4 liberal women: the then only Councilor of Switzerland Lise Girardin and national councilors Tilo Frey , Martha Ribi and Liselotte Spreng .

Since the 1970s, economic and social equality for women has been at the center of the association's demands, and the SVFF also fought for equality to be anchored in the federal constitution , which was achieved in 1981. In 1977, the FDP Switzerland founded its “Women and Politics” working group, which dealt with issues of women’s politics and cooperated closely with the SVFF in terms of both topics and personnel. Current topics included a. the maternity insurance , 10th AHV -revision, school organization, drug issues , wife and total defense .

In the 1980s it was possible to properly establish the lobby function: to give support to the women in the professional associations and to provide them with information on technical discussions at an early stage. With Elisabeth Kopp , the FDP women ported Switzerland's first female federal councilor in 1984 . The adoption of a new, partnership-based marriage law in 1985 was also a success of the joint voting campaign of the leadership and base of the SVFF, of FDP parliamentarians and the Federal Councilor. Later, the reconciliation of work and motherhood was increasingly a concern of the SVFF. Ursula Widmer-Schmid was elected from her ranks as the first FDP federal judge in 1984 , and from 1996 she was the first woman to preside over the Federal Insurance Court . The first FDP government councilor Cornelia Füeg was in office from 1987; in 1991 she was the first FDP government president in Switzerland. In 1995, Françoise Saudan was elected President of the Council of States as the first FDP woman , and the National Council was presided over for the first time in 1998 by a free-spirited woman Trix Heberlein as the “highest Swiss woman . The first female Chancellor of Switzerland, Annemarie Huber-Hotz , was also elected from among the ranks of the FDP women in 2000. With Christiane Langenberger , Councilor of States , the FDP Switzerland got a party president for the first time in 2002 .

From 1949 to 1991, the presidium of the free-spirited women's organization was regularly appointed by the cantonal section presidents. In 1991 the Swiss Association of Liberal Democratic Women was reorganized, instead of a suburban system, a nationwide association with a joint board was established. A new assembly of delegates was established, which meets annually and elects the president and the board. In 1994 the association changed its name to "FDP-Women Switzerland". After the merger with the women's groups of the Liberal Party of Switzerland on March 1, 2007, the umbrella organization was renamed to "FDP Women Switzerland - We Liberals", this name was until the founding of the "FDP. Liberals" through the merger of the parent parties FDP and LPS used. Since 2009, the organization has again had the same name as the women's umbrella organization of the Swiss Liberal Democratic Party from 1994 to 2007.

Since 1976, the president of the respective Swiss FDP women's organization has been an ex-officio member of the management of the Free Democratic Party and the board of the FDP .
