from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of swimming pools in Dresden contains all indoor and outdoor swimming pools in operation in the Saxon state capital Dresden .

description

There are currently eleven outdoor pools and seven indoor pools in Dresden. The outdoor pools are run exclusively by the municipal pool company; the Elbamare and Nordbad are exceptions to the indoor pools . They are operated by Aquapark Management GmbH from Münster . The Marienallee swimming pool is used by the Army Officers' School and is not open to the public. The Elbamare and Georg-Arnhold-Bad are adventure pools, the other Dresden swimming pools are less geared towards attractions.

Dresden's oldest swimming pool is the Nordbad, which was opened in 1895. National competitions of the GDR and after 1990 also important swimming events of the Federal Republic took place in the swimming hall Freiberger Platz , which was built in 1969 . The Steinstrasse swimming pool (1969) and the Prohlis swimming pool (1988) were also built in the GDR. The Steinstrasse swimming pool was closed in 2001. The Sachsenbad in Pieschen was in operation from 1928 to 1994. The Cottaer Hebbelbad (1970s) and the Niedersedlitzer teaching pool (2000) were also closed. The Güntzbad in the Pirnaische Vorstadt and the Striesener Centralbad Wiesinger were destroyed by the Second World War .

Various outdoor pools existed as river swimming pools along the Elbe until 1947. They were closed, as were the outdoor pools in the districts of Bühlau (2006), Klotzsche (2004), Lockwitz (1950), Niedersedlitz (2002) and Weißer Hirsch (1940). A few more, including the Lahmann sanatorium on the Weißen Hirsch, were closed at the end of the 19th and 20th centuries.

In 2013, the Dresden swimming pools were spun off from the municipal sports facility and pool operations to the Dresdner Bäder GmbH, a subsidiary of the Technischen Werke Dresden . The new company was responsible for the new construction of the swimming pool in Bühlau and also acts as the client for the expansion of the swimming pool Freiberger Platz.
