Text and music

The text of the song is limited to a few lines that deal with the old dog Seamus howling at the sunset outside the kitchen of the first-person narrator . The instrumentation of the piece consists of vocals, two western guitars , a piano and an electric bass . The most noticeable feature of the piece is the song-like dog howling and howling, which can be heard clearly in the background over its entire length, and which largely harmonizes in pitch with the music. The "singing" dog Seamus, after whom the song is named, belonged to the British musician Steve Marriott . The song was written and texted jointly by all former members of the band, Roger Waters , Richard Wright , Nick Mason and David Gilmour ; It is sung by David Gilmour. The song can be assigned to the style blues .

Live performances

The composition Seamus was published only once in a live version by Pink Floyd. The song is included on the live album Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii . The piece has been heavily modified especially for the performance. The only musical instruments that are used are played by Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters electric guitar type Fender Stratocaster and a played by guitarist David Gilmour harmonica . The dog Seamus was replaced by another dog named Nobs in this live performance . Therefore the title of the piece on Pink Floyd is: Live at Pompeii also Mademoiselle Nobs and not Seamus as in the original .
