Have a cigar

Have a Cigar is the third track on the Pink Floyd album Wish You Were Here from 1975. On the record, Have a Cigar follows the song Welcome to the Machine . On the original record it is the first track on the second side. Have a Cigar was released as a single in some countries .

The English folk musician Roy Harper is the singer of Have a Cigar . This makes the piece, along with The Great Gig in the Sky, one of two Pink Floyd songs in which a guest musician took over the vocal part.

Content and recording

The music and lyrics are by Roger Waters , who criticizes the hypocrisy and greed in the music industry.

When the piece was first recorded, Waters and David Gilmour tried their hand at the vocals of Have a Cigar ; in the end even in a duet . However, they were not satisfied with the result of all the recordings. Harper recorded his album HQ in Abbey Road's Studio 2 at the same time and he offered to do the vocal part.
