Shuvel was an American rap and nu-metal band from Wichita , Kansas , that was formed in 1997 and split in 2011.

history

The band was formed in 1997 by singers and rappers Isaac Ayala and Jeff Hollinger after they had previously worked in other jobs. The line-up was supplemented by guitarist Ryan Stuber, bassist Carlos Sandoval and drummer Kyle Hollinger. After playing four nights a week in Phoenix , Arizona for six months, the band ended up in Los Angeles , California . There she played in various clubs and pubs. After a party in San Pedro , a stripper contacted the A&R manager at Interscope Records . The soundtrack for the TV show Celebrity Deathmatch was released in 1999, which also includes Shuvel. The same label released the debut album Set It Off, produced by Scott Ralston in late summer 2000 . This was followed by tours with Kittie and Sevendust and appearances in Europe with Methods of Mayhem . In addition, the band took part in the Ozzfest in 2000 . After the group had been quiet for a long time, at the end of 2004 it announced that it had started its activity. In 2009 the album As the World Burns was released . The following year the band participated in the Sunset Strip Music Festival . In 2011 the band broke up.

style

According to Christian Graf in his Nu Metal and Crossover Lexicon , the band was influenced by Rage Against the Machine , the Beatles , Pearl Jam , Tupac Shakur and Pantera . The group combines funk , rap , metal and groovy rock , with an important feature of their music being the two equal lead singers. The debut album deals lyrically, among other things, with the rampage at Columbine High School . According to Heather Phares, the group was heavily influenced by the Beastie Boys and Rage Against the Machine. The group mixes political lyrics with aggressive rock, highlighting the two MCs as an important feature . Joel McIver compared the band to Rage Against the Machine in his book The Next Generation of Rock & Punk Nu Metal .
