Siegmund Ritter von Benigni in Müldenberg (since 1917 Count von Benigni in Müldenberg ; born January 15, 1855 in Fiume , † October 13, 1922 in Graz ) was an Austrian military master and troop leader in the First World War .

Life

Siegmund Ritter von Benigni in Müldenberg was retired as a lieutenant in the kuk Genieregiment 1 in Olomouc after graduating from the kuk Technical Military Academy in 1873 . After completing the higher genius course, he was assigned to the general staff as first lieutenant in 1880 and transferred to the staff of the 32nd Infantry Brigade in Sibiu . Alternating between general staff and troop assignments, he was promoted to captain in 1882 , major in 1893 and lieutenant colonel in 1898 . From 1898 to 1902 he was in command of the infantry cadet school in Pressburg . In 1901 he became a colonel and from 1902 to 1904 he was in command of the 19 Infantry Regiment, and from 1904 to 1907 he was in command of the Bosnian-Duchy of the Duchy of Infantry Regiment 2. Since April 1907 he was in command of the 19th Infantry Brigade, but in August he became the 2nd Mountain Brigade Transferred to Trebinje. In November 1907 he became major general and in 1911 Lieutenant Field Marshal . His active period of service now ended for the time being and he was put on a “waiting fee”.

In the first World War

When the First World War broke out, he was reactivated immediately and from January to March 1915 led the 45th and from March to June the 15th infantry division in the Carpathian Mountains as part of the Army Group Planter-Baltin . On May 7, 1915, he was promoted to Feldzeugmeister. In July 1915, during the height of the summer offensive against Russia, the Benigni Corps was formed. He led this association for over a year until the corps was renamed VIII Corps in July 1916. He led this corps until March 1918, when he was replaced by General of the Infantry Emmerich Hadfy. From then until October 1918 he was military commander of Krakow . Because of their merits, he and his brothers had already been raised to the rank of count on August 16, 1917.

In death

He died on October 13, 1922 and lies at the Graz-St. Peter buried.
