history

Archaeological finds near Sigritzau suggest that human settlements had already been located near the village in the Middle Stone Age . Sigritzau was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1228 with the name "Sigehardesawe", whereby the defining word goes back to the personal name Sigehard in the genitive singular . The basic word of the place name has the meaning of island (Old High German ouwa ) or water, electricity, land surrounded by water, water-rich meadow land (Middle High German ouwe ). According to the prevailing landscape around the hamlet, water-rich meadowland is probably the most appropriate description of the state.

It was mentioned in writing in 1228 when a testamentary decree was notarized, in which the Bamberg Ministerial Herdegen von Wiesenthau bequeathed his property to the Michelsberg Monastery under certain conditions . A curtem , which corresponded to a courtyard , also belonged to this property .

Until the beginning of the 19th century, Sigritzau was in the high court district of the Forchheim office , which was part of the Bamberg monastery and which, as a central office , exercised the highest jurisdiction in the place. When the Bamberg bishopric was secularized as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1802/03 and annexed by the Electorate of Palatinate-Baiern in breach of the Imperial Constitution , Sigritzau became part of the New Bavarian territories that were taken over during the Napoleonic "land consolidation" .

As a result of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century, Sigritzau became part of the rural community of Kersbach with the second municipal edict in 1818 . With the municipal regional reform in Bavaria in the 1970s, Sigritzau was incorporated into the city of Forchheim at the beginning of 1978 together with the municipality of Kersbach. In 1987 Sigritzau had 20 residents.
