The race
Already in 1950 had Scuderia Ferrari reported for the international sports car racing at Silverstone and with Alberto Ascari at the wheel of a Ferrari 166mm the race for sports cars to 2-liter engine also won. Three years later, Ferrari again presented the winner. This time, the works driver and later Formula 1 world champion Mike Hawthorn won the race. Hawthorn won with a margin of 16 seconds over the American Tom Cole , who also drove a Ferrari 340MM . Third place went to Aston Martin works driver Reg Parnell . For Cole it was the penultimate race of his career; Less than a month later, he had a fatal accident at the Le Mans 24-hour race .
