Alan Everest Brown (born November 20, 1919 in Malton , Yorkshire , † January 20, 2004 in Guildford , Surrey ) was a British racing driver and racing team owner.
Career
Actually, Brown was in civil life car salesman a truck -Representation of Dennis Motors in Guildford , but he quickly made a name for himself as one of the fastest drivers in the 500-cm 3 - Formula 3 scene after the Second World War , by 1951 the Won Luxembourg Grand Prix in a Cooper .
Since the following automobile world championship in 1952 had been announced according to the previous Formula 2 regulations, Brown also registered as one of the 80 drivers. In the Cooper T20 - Bristol , which looked a bit fragile compared to the Ferrari , but which was extremely robust in practice, it achieved fifth place at the Bremgarten Grand Prix .
Since Brown stood out less for his basic speed than for his reliability, the industrialist Tony Vandervell entrusted him with the first test drives of the new Vanwall at Odiham Airfield in Hampshire . Alan was also entrusted with the monoposto for the 1954 racing debut at the Silverstone International Trophy . However, the later successes of the English Ferrari were to bring in other drivers.
Brown then only competed sporadically in racing with a Connaught , then with a Jaguar D-Type in sports car races , only to say goodbye to racing as a driver in 1956, to which he remained loyal as a team owner from now on.
