Slobodan Grujić (born August 24, 1973 in Novi Sad ) is a former Yugoslav and now Serbian table tennis player . He was one of the best players in Europe in the 1990s and 2000s.

Career

Slobodan Grujić is the son of the table tennis player Aleksandar Grujić and his wife Miroslava (Mira), a former professional ballet dancer. At the age of nine, Slobodan Grujić joined the Yugoslav association Vojvodina. He soon achieved significant international success at the European Youth Championships. In 1987 he was European Cadet Champion in singles in Athens, and he reached the final in doubles with Tarik Hodzic. A year later he was second in the singles behind Torben Wosik . He also reached the semi-finals of the Juniors in 1990, and in 1991 he became European Champion.

In the adult sector, he took part in world championships 14 times from 1989 to 2009 , where he recorded his best placement in doubles with the quarter-finals in 2003 and 2007 . From 1992 to 2008 he was nominated eight times for European championships , where he was at least in the quarterfinals in doubles and even won bronze in 1992 with Ilija Lupulesku and in 2003 with Aleksandar Karakašević .

In 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 Slobodan Grujić qualified for participation in the Olympic Games . He reached the quarter-finals with Ilija Lupulesku in 1992 and with Aleksandar Karakašević in 2004 .

After 2009 Slobodan Grujić did not appear internationally until today (2012).

Bundesliga

1997 Grujić left the Yugoslav club Novi Sad and joined the German Bundesliga club TV Gönnern . After a two-year stint at SV Plüderhausen from 1999 to 2001, he returned to Gönnern. With the men's team of TV Gönnern he won the German Cup in 1997 and 2001, and in 2005 and 2006 he won the Champions League . In 2007 he moved to Fenerbahçe SK in Turkey . For the second half of the 2010/2011 season he was obliged by the Hessenligaverein TG Langenselbold, with whom he rose to the league . In 2013, 1. FC Saarbrücken signed him for the second team in the 2. Bundesliga.

Trainer

Slobodan Grujić has been working as a trainer at the Hessian table tennis association HTTV since July 2009 and supports the coaching team of the German table tennis association DTTB if necessary .

Private

Grujić is married to Elizabeta Harca, who was European youth champion in 1988 with the Yugoslav team. He has two sons with her.
