The (southern) Solz is a 21 km long right tributary of the Fulda in the district of Fulda and Hersfeld-Rotenburg . It is a second order watercourse .

The brook is not to be confused with the Solz brook of the same name, a little further down the Fulda near Bebra .

geography

The Solz rises in the northwest of the Kuppenrhön , in the northern area of the municipality of Eiterfeld in the district of Fulda . Between the local mountain (406 m above sea level), on which the hamlet of Fürsteneck and the Fürsteneck Castle are located, and the hamlet of Ober-Ufhausen, several springs arise in the Witfeld. They unite about 700 meters south of Oberweiseborn , a district of Eiterfeld. The watercourse initially flows in a northerly direction and then flows to Schenklengsfeld in a north-westerly direction towards the Fulda .

The Solz first flows through Oberweiseborn, passes the Concordia Mühle, where the watercourse changes to the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district . The watercourse then flows through the Schenklengsfeld districts of Unterweiseborn, the core town of Schenklengsfeld, Lampertsfeld, Schenksolz and Malkomes. The place then passes the Hermannshof, which belongs to Friedewald , and continues between the Bad Hersfeld districts of Sorga and Kathus . Finally, the Solz flows past the Oberrode farm.

About 1.3 km below Hof Oberrode, on the boundary between Bad Hersfeld and Ludwigsau , across from Bad Hersfeld's Zellersgrund, the watercourse flows into the Fulda.

The most important tributaries are the left tributary Ringbach, which rises near Landershausen and flows into Schenklengsfeld. and the right tributary Kothebach, which rises in Friedewald and flows below Malkomes.

Infrastructure

Federal road 62 runs through the valley between Sorga and just before Malkomes . In this area, at Hermannshof, the federal motorway 4 also crosses the Solztal. The valley is further developed by the state road 3171 , which leads to Eiterfeld.

Until 1993 the Hersfeld circular path led through the Solztal to Schenklengsfeld. Today the Solztal Cycle Path runs over the former railway bridge over the Fulda and the former railway line.
