History of origin

Label of the LP Songs and Folklore , 1966

Already with her first single Messer, Gabel, Schere, Licht (1965) Leandros made it to number 16 in the German single charts . The following singles, all produced by Vicky's father Leo Leandros, also turned out to be great sales successes. With her hits in the contemporary style of pop music , the singer developed into a teenage idol and one of the most successful German-speaking interpreters of the Philips record company.

In addition to singles, the sound carrier with the highest circulation at the time , more and more artists recorded, in some cases elaborate, concept albums during the 1960s . In 1966, after just three singles released, Vicky Leandros should also record a long-playing record. In line with the public's taste, the choice of titles was based on a mix of hits, folk and current pop songs. The debut album, also marketed in Canada , was supposed to prove the versatility of the talented singer and establish her on the international music market. In the liner notes of the record cover you can find the following immodest sentences: “[…] Vicky can be - this is already clear for many critics - confidently included in the circle of the world's singing elite. The official application for admission is this long-playing record at the latest. [...] "

Among the 12 titles of the original album, the cover of which shows Vicky Leandros' head profile in a thoughtful pose between shady sheets, there are cover versions by Bob Dylan , Peter, Paul and Mary or Joan Baez. The pieces , contributed by Leo Leandros, sounding more like folk songs by The Seekers than Schlager, Wenn du Want To Go and Where I Find Love , had already been released as a single in April 1966 (Philips 345 884 PF). This eventually reached number 22 in the German charts. In 1967 N'y pense plus ... tout est bien followed as the B-side of the Canadian single Un jour mon rêve ( RCA Victor 57-5795) from the album A Taste of Vicky .

2012, the original album has songs and folklore a remastering subjected to and from Koch Universal Music as part of the CD box set A Taste of the Sixties ... re-released. The bonus tracks contained on the corresponding CD include the six tracks from Vicky Leandros' first three singles from 1965 and 1966. Jan Wigger rated the album on Spiegel Online with 8.6 out of 10 points.
