Sonja Veselinović ( Serbian-Cyrillic : Соња Веселиновић; born December 9, 1981 in Novi Sad , Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian literary scholar and writer .

biography

Sonja Veselinović studied comparative literature at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Novi Sad , graduating in 2009 with a Masters Degree and in 2014 with a PhD in Philosophy. She has been Assistant Professor of Literature at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Novi Sad since 2016. Her numerous literary studies and essays on Serbian literature in the mirror of world literature include works on Georg Trakl and Gottfried Benn in the context of the work of Miloš Crnjanski , and their study forays through Danilo Kiš's narrative garden (The child's perspective in the novel "Garden, Asche "by Danilo Kiš) was published in 2013 in the first volume of the series Graz Studies on Slavic Studies at the University of Graz . She is the translator of some works by John Ashbery , Jean Giraudoux , Milan Kundera and Jacques Rancière into the Serbian language. In addition to her academic preoccupation with literature, Veselinović developed a personal and creative examination of writing as an artistic form of expression, which she realized with her first manuscript Poema preko (poem about it). She was awarded first prize for this literary work in 2007 at the Festival of Young Authors of the House of Youth (Dom omladine) in Zaječar , and the manuscript was published as a book one year later. In 2014 she received the renowned Isidora Sekulić Prize in 2013 for her second prose work Krosfejd ( Crossfade ) .

The Belgrade Goethe-Institut selected her to take part in the European Borderlands Festival - Belgrade and Pécs 2010, which is sponsored and organized by the Allianz Kulturstiftung in cooperation with the Berlin Literary Colloquium . An excerpt from Poema preko was presented for the first time in German and Hungarian translation at the festival . A year earlier, she was a participant in the Days of German Culture in Novi Sad 2009 at a reading by Denny Rosenthal. At the invitation of the Committee for Culture and Media of the Bundestag she was a guest at the Leipzig Book Fair 2011. In November 2018 she gave a guest lecture on the Black Wave at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in English.

While still a student, she started working in the editorial department of the literary magazine Polja at the Novi Sad cultural center in 2007 , to which she still belongs to this day. At the beginning of 2020, a German-language edition of the literary magazine with texts by contemporary Serbian authors was published for the first time at a symposium of the EU Art Network . This special edition no. 521 / LXV contains the three poems Strange Cinderella , The Cabinet Poem and With a Breath by Sonja Veselinović.
