The Sonnberg is 1072  m above sea level. A. high wooded ridge in the Austrian state of Salzburg .

Location and landscape

The Sulzberg lies as a west-east grazing, quite flat ridge between the Ellmau belonging to Fuschl in the north, an eastern side valley of the Fuschlsee, and the Faistenauer Tiefbrunnau on the south side. The ridge runs from Filbling  ( 1307  m above sea level ) over the saddle of Perfalleck  ( 1034  m above sea level ) for 3 kilometers along the Sonnberg to Sulzberg  ( 1034  m above sea level ) above St. Gilgen , a foothill of the Zwölferhorns . There it meets the ridge that leads from the northwest of the Ellmaustein  ( 1047  m above sea level ) over the Sausteigalm to the Zwölfergipfel, and delimits the St. Gilgen valley basin in a steep wall several hundred meters high.

Geology and hydrography

The Filbling – Sonnbergzug is a mighty plaice main dolomite (uncertain Carnian - Norian of the Triassic, approx. 230–210 million years old). The hard dolomite here forms a steep-sided ridge of the western summit area of Sonnberg itself but is a radical younger. Dachstein - Plattenkalks (Norium- Rhaetian , about 210-200 million years old).

To the north the Bambichlbach and Ellmaubach drain to the Fuschlsee , south the Brunnbach (sometimes also called Weißbach), which flows into the Almbach (Oberalm) at Hintersee . The latter goes southwest to the Salzach. The ridge thus forms the watershed between the catchment areas of the Inn and the Traun , whereby the Fuschlsee belongs to the Ager area (with Attersee and Mondsee).

Development

There is a transmitter mast to the east at the summit.

The mountain can only be reached on an unmarked path as a crossing from Perfalleck to Kühleiten am Sulzberg.
