Faistenau is a municipality in the Salzburg-Umgebung district in the Salzburger Land in Austria with 3094 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The landmark is the village linden in Faistenau .

geography

The municipality is located in the Salzburger Land, 14 kilometers east of the city of Salzburg . It is the highest municipality ( 784  m above sea level ) of the so-called Flachgau and belongs to the judicial district of Thalgau .

The municipal area comprises the following eight localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

Benedikt Pillwein published the following about the Faistenau vicariate, geographically identical to the present-day community of Faistenau, in 1843, based on information from Faistenau vicar (1826–1832) Simon Bauernfeind:

The local church with 4 altars, various paintings and carvings was built in honor of h. Jakob the Greater (with the Rosary Brotherhood) built around 1390 by two brothers from Thurn, the church and tower enlarged in 1625, the upstairs church built in 1703, the organ installed by Karl M auracher from Fügen in Tyrol in 1825, a new choir performed in 1829. Many old tombstones have already been ceded; seven others in white and red marble are dedicated to the memory of vicars who have died here and some private individuals, and from the years 1604, 1705, 1708, 1759, 1789, 1801 and 1809.
The four bells contain the dates of 1400, 1580, 1731 and 1774.
The church was built in 1605.
In 1622, J ohann C hristoph S tenglmayr appeared as vicar. The vicariate used to be provided by priests from Thalgau.
A proper schoolboy didn't come here until 1822; a measurer used to do his job. In 1803 the current school and messner house was built. The school has 112 weekday, 73 repeat students. (Vicar Siegmund Bauernfeind with new dates).

  • The neighboring alpine huts on the Sausteigalm and the Lärchenhütte on the north side of the Zwölferhorn are a worthwhile excursion destination . There you have a unique view of St. Gilgen and the three lakes: Wolfgangsee , Krotensee and Mondsee (Dreiseenblick). The alpine pastures of Faistenau can be reached via Tiefbrunnau , the last part via a toll road almost to the huts.
