history

In the 19th century, Sonnenschein was one of the suburbs of the farmers and the parish Dönberg in the Hardenberg mayor's office , which was renamed Neviges in 1935 . From 1816 to 1861 it belonged to the Elberfeld district and from 1861 to the old Mettmann district . At that time the place was right on the border between the farmers and the Uellendahler Rotte of the Lord Mayor of Elberfeld .

The place is unlabeled on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and marked as sunshine on the Prussian first survey from 1843 .

In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province from 1888, a house with 17 inhabitants is given for sunshine.

In the sunshine, a coal route ran from Sprockhövel to Elberfeld , on which coal was transported from the mines in the southern Ruhr area to the factories in Wuppertal in the late 18th century and in the first half of the 19th century , which at that time was the industrial heart of the region was. Today it is known as the street Westfalenweg .

With the municipal reform of 1929, the southern part of Dönberg was split off from Neviges and incorporated into the newly founded city of Wuppertal with other Neviges villages outside Dönberg, including Sonnenschein. The city boundary between Wuppertal and Neviges ran north of Sonnenschein until 1975, and immediately south of it that from Neviges to Elberfeld until 1929. As a result of the regional reform of North Rhine-Westphalia , Neviges came to the city of Velbert at the beginning of 1975 and the rest of the Dönberg was also incorporated into Wuppertal. As a result, Sunshine lost its border position.
