Sophie Adolphine Adlersparre (born March 6, 1808 in Räpplinge , Öland , † March 23, 1862 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish painter .

Live and act

Sophie was the daughter of the provincial head ( Landshövding ) Axel Adlersparre (June 29, 1763 to September 16, 1838) of the island of Öland and his wife Carolina Ottiliana von Arbin. After the painter CF Pedersen was shipwrecked off the island, she received drawing lessons from him. After the family moved to Stockholm in 1830 , she trained with Carl Gustaf Qvarnström , Johan Gustaf Sandberg and Olof Johan Södermark . Crown Princess Joséphine (who later became Queen of Sweden) ordered a portrait from her and arranged contacts.

At an exhibition at the Stockholm Art Academy in 1836, two of her portraits of women were exhibited, and in 1838 a painting showing two peasant women. From 1839 to 1840 Sophie Adlersparre studied with Léon Cogniet in Paris , where she met Carl Wahlbom and Per Wickenberg . Back in Stockholm she set up her own drawing school. In 1845, the now Queen Joséphine financed another study trip to Paris. Between 1845 and 1846, Sophie Adlersparre studied in Dresden , where she was inspired by Johan Christian Clausen Dahl and Caspar David Friedrich . Further study trips took her to Munich , Florence , Bologna and Rome . In Rome she belonged to the Swedish artist colony and had contact with the German group of Nazarenes under Friedrich Overbeck . She converted to Catholicism and designed a portrait of Pope Pius IX.

She copied pictures to finance her travels and made, among other things, portraits, images of groups of children or flowers.
